RE: Travel Trailer Inspection

I think it's a "cash cow" for the state and some extra money for the RV Dealer who "inspects" it. A wasted trip in MHO. Having the trailer inspected does nothing for the safety of the TV. If a person could care less about their RV then I'm sure their TV is probably in need of some repair...and if you think we got taxes now; just wait until next year!

RE: Water Filter Guts

Do you have a picture of a new one cut away? How long was the unit in service? Do you know how "hard" the water was that was going through the filter? Was that filter used inside the RV or outside, before any water got to the inside of the RV? I've been thinking about adding one but don't know really how well they work or for how long. Nice, yummy, pictures.

RE: We've Been Robbed!

You may want to check on Craig's list to see if any of your stuff is being sold.

RE: Why I can't use stabilizer jacks to level TT???

I just pull in a push out the slides and jack them up. It's easy level by pushing up the slides....anybody freak out yet? No, I don't level with the slides. I always level with wood or lynx blocks and use the stabalizer to do just that...stabalize. I just recently purchased a pair of the portable screw type jacks and put them up against the main beam before and aft the tires. Seems to help a little with trailer movement.

RE: hot water smell

I let the water "sit" in the hot water tank for 3 weeks before I used it again and when I turned on the hot water it gagged me. I emptied out the hot water tank, flushed it with water and bleach mixture. Problem solved. I'll empty my hot water tank whenever I finish a camping trip from now on. Of course, if where you are camping has some real "well water", you might just be getting the sulfur odor. I don't know if those outside filters take away the smell or not.

RE: It's the wannabe RV'er here again...

You won't find a better unit than a Nash or Arctic Fox. They are heavy units. Popular in your neck of the woods.

RE: REFLECTIVE TAPE NEEDED

All truck stops sell it since it is required (I think) on semi's. I got mine at Flying J.

RE: BEWARE !! CAMPING WORLD ADS

I guess I didn't know, or forgot, that CW runs this site. I made a comment that I was happy with my CW experiences and, by golly, I got a $100 gift card sent to my e-mail address. Wow! I guess it does pay to suck-up sometimes!!!

RE: BEWARE !! CAMPING WORLD ADS

Gee, I've not had a bad experience with CW and I've spent probably over $3,000 in "stuff" (as DW calls it). Never been disappointed. That being said, I've never used their installation service for anything nor their maintenance services. I might think twice about using those services.

RE: 8000 Watt Generator

Good grief, how much does that monster weigh? You'll have enough power for your unit plus sell some electric back to the power grid.:)

RE: WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONLINE OUT Of STATE

I would pay up to 5% more for an RV from a dealer that had good, honest service record. I have an Arctic Fox which are not sold in Ohio anymore but if I bought another RV, it would be a Fox and I'd drive up to 500 miles to get it. Service isn't as big a problem for a real quality unit as it may be for an entry level unit. Doesn't everyone remember their first entry level unit?

RE: Slide-Out Jacks/Stands - Yea or Nay?

I use them whenever I'm out for more than a few days. I just snug them up to the rails. Can't hurt. I like the idea that a little of the weight is being supported. They don't cost that much either. I would not put them on wet ground. I don't know of anyone who had problems using them properly. They are not meant to lift or level the slide. I also put some jacks front and rear of the TT tires to help minimize trailer movement. JMHO

RE: Awning sail...does it need replaced?

Even though I have a $500 deductable (the total cost of replacement is $1,295), I'm going ahead and having the whole thing replaced. Too much "else" could go wrong after I change this or that. That'll teach me to listen to DW who insisted we sit under the shade...O.K., I'll still have to listen to her but I might get a word in now. :-)

RE: Travel Trailer Freeway bounce or hop

We have a EC, 2500HD '06 D-Max, and are pulling a 30U Arctic Fox. It's really heavy-12,000 lbs, with a tongue weight of 1350 lbs. I thought I would be beat to death our first trip to MN. I put on a Putnam Class V hitch, new Bilsten shocks, Timbrens, and a 1400 lb Equalizer hitch. I adjusted the hitch about 8 times and have it as close as I can get level wise but there are some roads that are still a beater...I-90 in Wisc. is the worst. I travel at 55-60 mph. All my adjusting and "up-grades" only provided marginal relief. My next step is to have a hitch put on the back and get some of that tongue weight off. Good luck.

Awning sail...does it need replaced?

While participating in the national matches at Camp Perry; a really strong storm came up from Lake Erie with a lot of wind and flipped my awning up. Me (at 1/8 of a ton, DW, and a neighboor had hold of the awning and it was lifting us off the ground. I had to let it "go" and just wait it out. The awning billowed over the top of the TT like a Viking sail. It bent the support arms. After a lot of banging and bending, I finally got it back in place but am wondering if exposing the awning to such force should it be replaced? It doesn't seem to be torn...just stretched out some. I probably can order new support arms but don't know how much they will cost. The TT is 3 years old and the awning rally hasn't been used that much. I'm wondering if I should just bite the deductable and turn it in to my insurance or try and get it "repaired". Any ideas?

RE: Crossing Safety Chains

Gee, the tongue weight on my Arctic Fox is 1350 lbs-from the factory. If that beast drops on the crossed chains I'm sure it will hold the tongue until I get stopped...as long as I can stop the rig in a nano second. :)

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

Seems to me the dealer forgot to post a minimum bid. I can't imagine a dealer puting themselves in a position to loose thousands of dollars. The bee story was made up to try and cover someones error on the posting. When I purchased my house, or you purchased your house, in the mortagage papers it states that omissions of reasonable cause and mathimatical errors can be corrected. I'm not saying the company is right in their bee position. They should have been up front and said we forgot to put in the minimum and we're sorry. Maybe drop off a couple of thousand from their actual costs. I don't think we should take advantage of someone's mistake. Clearly, a 5th wheel at 50% off is a sale that a "reasonable person" (a.k.a legal stuff) would know is too good to me true. JMHO...hey, get out their and do some camping!!
